Flies do not like the odor of clover, and a bunch of these blossoms left drying in a aroom will effectively expel them.

A good test for the right consistency of jelly when boiling  is to let it drop from a spoon.  If the last drop sticks to the spoon, it is sufficiently hard.
A thin piece of salt pork bound on to a wound caused by stieeping on a nail or carpet tack will remove the inflammation almost immediately, and prevent serious consequences.
Sweet herbs, when wanted for drying, should be gather on a fine clear day, the roots cut off.  They should be dried in small bunches very quickly by the heat of a stove, rather than by the sun.
To clean all kinds of glass bottles, wet some tea leaves with a little warm water and soda; put them into the bottles and shake well until the bottles are clean; rinse in clear water and drain.
If, in using sour milk with soda for griddle cakes or muffins, the milk does not foam as it should to produce the desired lightness, a teaspoonful of vinegar added to the milk will give the desired result.
To clean sewing machines, cover all the bearings with kerosene oil, work the machine very quickly for a few minutes, then throughly rub all the oil off with a soft rag, and apply machine oil to the parts which need oiling.
